Do I need to know how to play Mahjong to purchase your products?
Not at all! Many of our customers are just beginning their Mahjong journey. Our products are designed for beginners and experienced players alike.
What version of Mahjong are your products designed for?
Our products are designed for American Mahjong.
What is American Mahjong?
American Mahjong is a four-player tile game that combines strategy, skill, and a little luck. Players work to build one of the winning hands listed on the official annual Mahjong card. The first player to complete a matching hand calls "Mahjong!" to win.
I'm new to Mahjong. What accessories do I need to play Mahjong?
To begin playing, you'll typically need:
- A Mahjong tile set

- Racks & pushers

How many players are needed for Mahjong?
American Mahjong is traditionally played with four players, making it the perfect game for girls' nights, family gatherings, and game-day get-togethers. Looking to play with a smaller group? There are also popular variations for three players, two-player Siamese Mahjong, and even solo Mahjong.
How long does a game of Mahjong take?
Most games of American Mahjong take about 60–90 minutes, depending on the experience level of the players and how quickly someone calls "Mahjong!"

What size Mahjong mat should I buy?
We recommend measuring your table before purchasing to ensure the best fit. Our standard Mahjong mats measure 33" x 33", making them ideal for most standard card tables and game tables. Looking for something more portable? We also offer select designs in travel sizes, perfect for Mahjong on the go.
Are your mats reversible?
Yes! Some of our Mahjong mats are reversible, offering two beautiful designs in one. Check the product description to see if your favorite design includes this feature.
Do your mats have directional guides?

Do your tile totes and boxes fit all Mahjong tile sets?
Yes! Our tile containment options are all designed to fit most standard American Mahjong tile sets, making them perfect for storing and transporting your favorite tiles.
How should I care for my Mahjong mat?

How should I care for my Mahjong tiles?
Anders Ruff Design Co. Mahjong tiles are crafted from premium materials and designed to be enjoyed for years with proper care. To keep them looking their best:
- Store them indoors in a cool, dry place.
- Keep them out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after play.
- For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp microfiber cloth or baby wipe, then dry immediately.
- If using a new cleaning method, always test it on an extra tile first.
What should I avoid with my Mahjong tiles?

Orders & Shipping
Do Mahjong mats ship rolled?
Yes! All of our Mahjong mats are shipped rolled to help prevent creases and ensure they arrive ready for game day.
How long will it take to receive my order?
Shipping times vary by product. In-stock items typically ship within 2-3 business days, while made-to-order and pre-order items will ship according to the timeline listed on the product page. You'll receive a tracking email as soon as your order is on its way.
My order contains pre-order and in-stock items. Will they ship together?
Unless otherwise noted, to keep your order together and minimize packaging, we ship every order complete — meaning all items are sent in one shipment.
When an order includes a pre-order or made-to-order piece, the entire order ships once that item becomes available, determined by the item with the latest estimated ship date. The estimated timing for each item is shown on its product page and at checkout, and we'll notify you if a date changes.
If you'd like to receive your in-stock items right away, we recommend placing those items in a separate order. Any applicable shipping timelines will be listed on the product page.
Do you offer expedited shipping?
If your item is in stock and ready to ship, expedited shipping may be available. Please contact us at hello@andersruff.com before placing your order, and we'll be happy to check availability.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We ship to many international destinations. Please contact us at hello@andersruff.com before placing your order so we can confirm shipping options and rates.
How do I track my order?
As soon as your order ships, you'll receive a confirmation email with your tracking information so you can follow your package every step of the way.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
It depends on the type and status of your order. Please email hello@andersruff.com as soon as possible, and we'll do our best to help. For pre-orders, cancellations are accepted within 7 days of placing your order.
My tracking says "Pre-Transit." What does that mean?
"Pre-Transit" means your shipping label has been created and your package is being prepared for carrier pickup. Tracking updates typically appear once the carrier scans your package into their system.
My order arrived damaged, defective, or incorrect. What should I do?
We want you to absolutely love your order! If something isn't quite right, please email us at hello@andersruff.com within 7 days of delivery with:
- Your order number
- A brief description of the issue
- Clear photos of the item(s) and the packaging
Our team will review your request and work with you to find the best solution, whether that's a replacement, store credit, or a refund. We'll also cover the cost of return shipping for any damaged, defective, or incorrect items.
Returns
What is your return policy?
Our return policy varies by product type. Eligible items purchased directly from Anders Ruff Design Co. may be returned within the applicable return window, while certain items—including made-to-order products, opened Mahjong tile sets, gift cards, and items marked Final Sale—are not eligible for return. Please review our Full Return Policy for complete details.
How do I start a return?
All returns must be approved before they are sent back to us. To request a return, please email hello@andersruff.com with:
- Your order number
- The item(s) you'd like to return
- The reason for your return
- A photo of defective item (if applicable)
Our team will review your request and provide return instructions if your item is eligible. Returns sent without prior authorization may be refused.

Do you have minimum order quantities?
Yes. Our standard minimum order quantity is 4 units per item, unless otherwise noted on the product listing. Minimums and ordering requirements are subject to change based on inventory and demand.
